I am not happy with Prairie
Primer. We've been using it for over a year now, and we're all
tired of it. The oldest girls and I just drag our feet about it,
put it off, and then are very ho-hum about the lessons, too.
I've not been happy with the lesson contents for the last book and this
one (currently reading The Long Winter) but felt we had to at least
finish our current book before quitting.
I think I am
at the point of quitting w/o finishing the book now. We just had
another blah lesson and I hate that school has become that way for
us. It's hard enough working up the energy to do our lessons when
I'm 7+ months pregnant w/o adding in a dislike for the curriculum.
So, as long as the Principal agrees tonight, I think we'll flip over
tomorrow to starting our Beyond FIAR vol. 1 final book -- Betsy
Ross. We've always preferred the Beyond FIAR lessons over the
Prairie Primer. The girls will be delighted with the change, I
think. We'll finish reading The Long Winter at night perhaps,
instead of as part of our school lessons.
But that leads me to
thinking about next year. Do I do Beyond FIAR vol. 2 and 3 (need to buy
vol. 2 but own vol. 3 already)? Or do I start into our next
adventure ... and which one would that be: Tapestry of Grace or
I think I'm leaning toward Tapestry of Grace, but I still can't decide
whether to begin in Fall 2006 or wait until Fall 2007. Either
way, I realized I'm now off a year and my oldest daughter won't get 2
full rounds of ToG in before she graduates. Unless we are really
pokey about it (or really fast), she'll get 1 3/4 cycles through world
history. The cost of putting off this decision "just one more year" for the past several years.
Ahhh -- it's so confusing at times!!
