Unofficial Poll: toilet paper

I have discovered this month, that my family really does go through an entire roll of toilet paper each day.  Actually one roll in less than 24 hours.  I suppose that is what you should expect when you have ten people in the family, and most of them are home all day, every day.  Though, technically, two of our kids are still in diapers.

But I can't help but wonder ... how many days does a roll of toilet paper last in YOUR home?

  1. I have found it all depends on the brand. After going through a roll in under 3 days (family of 4) I started looking for alternatives. We settled on the Scott 1000s. Lasts between 5-6 days typically (barring any intestinal nastiness) and is the most economical for us. We tried every brand and I hated the super thin stuff that disintegrates when someone tries to use it and the super thick kind just doesn't seem to really do a good job (or flush well for that matter). I've taken to buying it in the 20 roll packs. (Which Target has on sale for like 10 bucks this week).

    1. I don't know that we've ever tried Scott 1000s. Hmm. We should. I know I hate disintegrating TP, and we also have issues with the thicker stuff plugging up the toilet. So, something that works, lasts, and doesn't plug up the toilet would be great. :)

  2. I second the Scott 1000s, lasts much longer than any other brand I've tried, reduces the number of back ups we have, and is less prone to leaving tp "fluff" all over the baseboards. Although I know not all our guests like it (it's not cottony soft ;0).

It is also the brand my mama has always used.

  3. We usually use Angel Soft because it doesn't plug our pipes (the toilet isn't the issue - it's the pipes), it doesn't have as much lint, and it doesn't feel like rough paper or sand paper. Our family of 5 goes through a roll every day and a half, which has frustrated me. I haven't tried Scott 1000 because all the Scott paper I see is either the super thin or their new Soft line which concerns me about the pipes... (If it's too thin, I think my girls will use even more than the 5-6 squares I tell them it's OK to use.)

  4. We use Costco's Kirkland brand, and we go through a roll in about 7 days, for a family of four - but that's with two separate bathrooms, so it may actually be more like every 4-5 days or so. Costco sells one lower-priced brand than their Kirkland brand, but it was so thin, it wasn't worth using. We went through it faster than the Kirkland brand! In our area, the Kirkland brand is the most economical. I've heard lots of moms who price things well, say that.
