I couldn't resist the title of this book. It resonated with me. Just Too Busy. That is exactly how our life has been feeling lately. We may not have daily after-school activities, but we still feel like we've been running in a hamster wheel many weeks. At least, I do.
I really enjoyed reading Joanne Kraft's experience with taking her family completely OUT of the craziness for an entire year. She doesn't dwell on the ugly parts, but she shared enough to let us know that it didn't start out easy for anyone. Over the course of that year, their family was blessed as they enjoyed a new spirit of togetherness that only TIME together could create.
Not every family will want to, or be able to, completely remove themselves from outside activities. But every family can learn something from this book and find ways to apply it to their lives. Even if it's only to set aside one Saturday a month for family time, and protect that time so it doesn't get crowded out. Or maybe it will mean only allowing each child to choose one after-school activity to be involved in, or protecting one week night for a family dinner time.
If you're feeling "just too busy" in your family, I definitely suggest you read Joanne Kraft's book, Just Too Busy: Taking Your Family On A Radical Sabbatical.

SHORT BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Just Too Busy is one mother’s story of getting off the merry-go-round of her family’s over-commitment. When everything in their life seemed like a marathon race, Joanne Kraft and her husband decided to take a “radical sabbatical”—a year-long absence from any of their four children’s organized after-school activities. Memories made, new traditions started, lessons learned, and how their family’s legacy was enriched are shared, spiced with a liberal helping of light-hearted humor.
