My oldest daughter came home from college yesterday. It's the first time she's been home since August. Last night she asked me, "Did you get shorter or did I get taller?" At the time I just laughed and told her neither. But as I was falling asleep last night I realized that it was actually a symbolic question.
She's changed in the past three months. She's matured, she's learned new things, she's stepped out on her own and gained some confidence in her own abilities. She's grown.
Thankfully, I don't think I've actually shrunk in her eyes, but I'm glad that she feels taller, stronger, capable. I'm very proud of her. And if it means I seem smaller to her now, I guess that's okay.
