The Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Week 5

The Homeschool Chick

In my life this week...

We had the third birthday of the year this week.  My oldest son (4th child) turned ten.  I can't believe that ten years ago I had a 5.5 yo, 4 yo, 1.5 yo and newborn.   It seems so long ago.  I'm glad the children spaced out a bit more after that.  Now we have 4 children under the age of 10, and 4 children between 10 and 16 (not yet 16).

In our homeschool this week...

We studied the Phoenicians, Divided Israel, King Rehoboam, King Jeroboam, and Elijah with Mystery of History.  We're working our way back to Ancient Greece, and then Ancient Rome.  This week, I began teaching sentence formation, dialogue, and writing with humor with my elementary school students.  I also taught essay writing to my older students.  We're doing 2 subjects all together right now ... Mystery of History and also Who Is God? ... and that's new to us.  It's been awhile since we did that.

Places we're going  & people we're seeing...

Well, we had a medical appointment on Monday, Wednesday evening church,  4H dance practice on Thursday, a 4H district event on Saturday, the teen Valentine Banquet on Saturday, a Teens For Christ event Saturday evening, and church again on Sunday.  It's a busy week.

My favorite thing this week was...

The WARM spring-like weather!  It has been such a blessing to enjoy the sunshine and warmth.  Unfortunately, we also have mud and mush everywhere from melting snow.  The children have been able to play outside, but not as much as we'd like with the muddiness.

What's working/not working for us...

We're enjoying Mystery of History vol. 1 at the moment.  I've been reading it aloud to the children and then we've been discussing it.  Next week I have some extra books to supplement the reading.  My children who don't enjoy reading are enjoying the break from Tapestry of Grace.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

At the moment, I'm just thinking about how blessed I am to be able to homeschool my children.  I'm thankful for the freedom to do so, the support my husband gives so I can, and the great curriculum that's available for homeschoolers now.

A photo to share...

It's been two years since we got our chicks, but we think it's time to get some more fuzzy babies.  Chick days are coming soon, and we're excited!

Enjoying our homeschool life,
April E.
