Gratitude Day 7: The Land of the Free, as it used to be

Today I am thankful that I grew up in the "Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave". I'm thankful that I lived in a democratic republic with a capitalist economic system. To some countries, those have been bad words.  To me, they are the sound of freedom.

However, I'm also sad that my children will grow up and live in an increasingly socialist system instead of the country that I grew up in.  I've been inside socialist/communist East Germany in the 80s. That is not what I want for my children or my country.

I also do not want my children to live in a country that is increasingly secular and godless, as most European countries are. But the reality is that is what we are facing ... an erosion of freedom and a country that is not only turning further away from God, but becoming hostile to God's Word and those who try to follow it.

I am reminded that I need to be faithful to pray for my children to be strong in the Lord as they grow to be adults and try to serve Him in an increasingly hostile country.

(Please note that I realize this is not all the fault of our current president.  It is an ongoing issue that started many years ago as the government instituted more and more socialist programs and the people began to expect more and more of them.

And on another note, I will try to be more positive again tomorrow.)

  1. So true, April. But there is always hope that perhaps we will raise up our children to bring the country back in the intended direction of our forefathers.

I love to hear from you. Thanks for your comment!
